Philip Rivers Signs to the Colts Practice Squad

        6:32pm UTC 12/9/25

The Indianapolis Colts have signed veteran QB Philip Rivers to their practice squad. With QB Riley Leonard week-to-week with a knee injury, Rivers bolsters the QB depth in case he is needed. He will compete with QB Brett Rypien, also on the practice squad, for the back-up job. But, it isn’t out of the question for Rivers to start at some point with the Colts trying to claw their way into the playoffs.

Riley Leonard "Week To Week" ... Philip Rivers To The Rescue?!

        1:16am UTC 12/9/25

Colts QB Riley Leonard is considered "week to week" with a strained ligament in his knee, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. That's a more pessimistic report than we got earlier today and has Leonard sounding very iffy for Sunday's game vs. the Seahawks. Meanwhile, the Colts are having QB Philip Rivers in for a workout on Tuesday. Yeah, that Philip Rivers. The 44-year-old has not played since 2020 but has plenty of familiarity with HC Shane Steichen's offense. Steichen was Rivers' QBs coach with the Chargers from 2016 to 2019 and interim OC in 2019. We'll see where this goes over the next couple of days, but Rivers is no more than a speculative stash in 2-QB and superflex leagues. And even there, we wouldn't go dropping anyone of value for him.

Riley Leonard’s Status In Question This Week

        7:44pm UTC 12/8/25

Colts QB Riley Leonard entered the game against the Jaguars in relief of Daniel Jones after he tore his Achilles. HC Shane Steichen revealed that Leonard himself is dealing with a knee injury making his status for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks uncertain. Steichen also commented that QB Anthony Richardson would not be activated this week, so practice squad QB Brett Rypien could become the Colts’ starter.

Daniel Jones Needs Season-Ending Achilles Surgery

        1:26pm UTC 12/8/25

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms that Colts QB Daniel Jones needs surgery to repair a ruptured right Achilles. That ends Jones' season, puts his status for the start of the 2026 campaign in question, and leaves the Colts with a big problem at QB.

Daniel Jones Out With Achilles Injury

        6:50pm UTC 12/7/25

Colts QB Daniel Jones suffered a non-contact leg injury near the end of the first quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Jaguars. He was quickly ruled out with an Achilles. This will likely be a season-ending injury that could also impact Jones' readiness for the start of the 2026 campaign, but we'll look for more details. QB Riley Leonard is Indianapolis' backup with QB Anthony Richardson still sidelined with his eye injury.

        Daniel Jones Has Fractured Fibula

        6:08pm UTC 11/27/25

Colts QB Daniel Jones has a fractured fibula, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It sounds like Jones suffered the injury in last Thursday's practice. He played vs. the Chiefs on Sunday and has been a full participant in practice this week, but Rapoport calls him "uncertain" for this Sunday's game vs. the Texans. We'll keep an eye on Jones' status, but he's not a recommended QB1 start with the injury and matchup against Houston's second-ranked QB defense. If Jones can't go, Indianapolis would be forced to turn to sixth-round rookie QB Riley Leonard,

Daniel Jones Added To Thursday's Injury Report

        11:11pm UTC 11/20/25

Colts QB Daniel Jones was added to the injury report and limited in practice on Thursday with a calf. "Sounds like the Colts are being cautious," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted. "Still worth keeping an eye on..." We'll certainly be keeping an eye on this one. With QB Anthony Richardson on IR, QB Riley Leonard is Indianapolis' backup. He'd be a huge downgrade for the offense.

Colts Add Sixth Round QB Riley Leonard

        8:21pm UTC 4/26/25

The Indianapolis Colts selected Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard with the 189th pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. Leonard emerged as Duke’s starter in 2022. The sophomore earned an honorable mention All-ACC selection, popping as a dual-threat athlete. His 776 rushing yards ranked seventh nationally among QBs, although he threw for only 228 yards per game on 7.6 yards per attempt. Toe and ankle injuries limited Leonard to just seven games in 2023, and he needed two procedures to stabilize the ankle. Leonard transferred to Notre Dame ahead of the 2024 campaign and stayed healthy, running for 982 yards and 17 TDs. But he didn’t progress much as a passer. Leonard averaged 179 passing yards per game on 7.1 yards per attempt, ranking 48th in Pro Football Focus passing grade among 128 qualifying QBs. His rushing ability would make him an intriguing fantasy asset if he gets on the field as a pro. But Leonard is unlikely to develop into an NFL-caliber passer. He projects as a long-term backup.
