Bottom Line

Slayton’s tallied between 724 and 770 yards in four of the past five seasons.

His upside takes a hit this year with the arrival of Malik Nabers. Plus, QB play remains a question with Daniel Jones returning from an ACL tear.

We’re not eager to draft Slayton in the later rounds.

What We Learned Last Year

  • Slayton led the Giants in targets (79) and receiving yards (770). He tied for the team lead in TDs (4).
    • He benefited from a barren WR corps and several missed games from Darren Waller.
    • But Slayton also endured horrible QB play. New York QBs combined for 15 passing TDs and 197 passing yards per game.
  • Slayton hit 50 yards in eight of 17 games.
    • He simply wasn’t consistent enough to use in standard-size fantasy leagues. Slayton finished worse than WR36 in 10 weeks.
  • Slayton set a career-high in catch rate (65.8%) while tallying a healthy 15.4 yards per catch.
    • His 1.38 yards per route run fell in line with his career average.

What to Expect in 2024

  • Slayton stayed away from the team’s offseason program… until agreeing to a restructured contract.
    • His new deal calls for an extra $650K in incentives, per ESPN’s Field Yates.
    • "I'm satisfied,” Slayton said this spring. “We got done what we needed to get done and just looking forward to playing ball," Slayton said. "We just adjusted my contract this year a little bit. Just tried to make it a little bit more lucrative. Business is business and I'm here."
  • He’s set to play more of a secondary role this fall.
    • The Giants added dynamic WR Malik Nabers with a top-10 pick. He projects for a healthy target share right away.
    • Darren Waller retired. His absence removes 74 targets (12 games).
    • The Giants return Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt. Robinson’s locked into a slot role. Hyatt’s a wildcard as a vertical, outside WR.
  • Daniel Jones returns for year three alongside HC Brian Daboll and OC Mike Kafka.
    • Coming off a November ACL tear, Jones is expected to return for Week 1.

Malik Nabers, WR NYG

11:41am EDT 10/21/24

Production Lags, Targets Return for Malik Nabers

Giants WR Malik Nabers returned from a two-game concussion for Sunday's loss to the Eagles. He managed just 4 receptions and 41 yards and even trailed WR Wan'Dale Robinson by 1 target. But Nabers' 8 still accounted for 27.6% of the Giants' total pass attempts. That included 28.6% of QB Daniel Jones' 21 attempts; 25% of replacement QB Drew Lock's eight throws.

Giants WR Darius Slayton was fine in Week 6, tallying 6 receptions for 57 yards in the Sunday night loss to the Bengals. His 11 targets tied WR Wan'Dale Robinson for the team lead, beating his next-nearest teammate by five.

Giants WR Malik Nabers (concussion) is out for Sunday night's game vs. the Bengals. He's yet to practice after sustaining a concussion 15 days ago. We'll see if Nabers can get cleared for Week 7's game vs. the Eagles. His absence this weekend again leaves Wan'Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton as New York's top two WRs. They accounted for 20 of the team's 34 targets last week.

Giants WR Malik Nabers (concussion) remained sidelined for Thursday's practice. With multiple stages of the protocol to pass through still, he's unlikely to be cleared in time for Sunday night's game vs. the Bengals. We'll update Nabers' status again tomorrow but are removing him from the Week 6 Rankings for now. Nabers' absence boosts the target projections for WRs Wan'Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton.

Giants WR Darius Slayton racked up 122 yards and a TD on 8 receptions in Sunday's win over the Seahawks. He drew 11 targets -- 32.4% of QB Daniel Jones' total attempts -- to lead the team, with rookie WR Malik Nabers (concussion) out.

Once the subject of trade rumors, Slayton re-emerged in 2022. The Giants rewarded him with a 2-year deal (~$5 million guaranteed) in 2023. We expect him to return in 2024 as a starter on the outside, but QB concerns remain.
