Bucs Might Miss Baker Mayfield Well Beyond Three Weeks
We've already heard -- and passed along -- that the Buccaneers expect QB Baker Mayfield to miss three weeks with his dislocated right thumb. But that appears to be the short end of his return window. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Mayfield is expected to miss "anywhere from three to six weeks, depending on how quickly he is able to grip the football."

Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield is expected to miss 3 weeks with his thumb injury, HC Todd Bowles said Monday. It's about the best news we could have hoped for after the MRI on Mayfield's right thumb showed no ligament damage. Expect him to miss the next 3 games vs. the Packers, at the Cowboys, and vs. the Steelers. Undrafted rookie QB Jalon Daniels is the next man up for Tampa Bay.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport calls a 2-4 week absence the "best-case scenario" for Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield. He dislocated his right thumb in Sunday's loss to the Vikings and is scheduled for additional testing today. Rapoport adds that Mayfield could be out longer depending on the damage to the ligaments in his thumb. We should learn more about his status today, but it looks like it'll be Jalon Daniels under center for at least the next couple of weeks. The undrafted rookie can run, amassing over 1,400 rushing yards across 6 college seasons, but has a long way to go as a passer. He completed just 61.5% of his college passes at 7.8 yards per attempt. Expect a run-heavy attack from the Bucs with Daniels under center, making all the team's pass catchers shaky fantasy bets.

He projects as a huge downgrade for the passing game and offense in general.

Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield injured his right thumb late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Vikings. The thumb slammed against LB Blake Cashman as Mayfield followed through on a throw.
