RB Javonte Williams took the first rep in every drill at the Broncos' first day of training camp, per Benjamin Allbright.
Benjamin Allbright: "In other Broncos news; the Javonte Williams obituaries were hilariously premature. Took the 1st reps in every drill. I think Perine has the toughest climb."
NFL Network's James Palmer: "Javonte Williams looked good today. He’s lost some weight since the spring and was moving really well. Sean Payton would like to have Williams at about 220. Payton went back and watched Williams’ college tape and said to Williams, 'that’s the back I want.'"
Andrew Mason of Denver Sports 104.3: "Williams had the sharpest cuts and best burst he’s shown since the knee injury. One day, but a very good day."
After multiple reports about Broncos RB Javonte Williams being a potential cut candidate for the Broncos, he appears to be taking the first team reps for the team.
Williams is now 21 months removed from tearing his ACL and LCL.
Reports from Palmer about being slimmed down and moving well is positive news regarding Williams' health.
If Payton is starting to favor Williams, he could be a value in drafts.
Allbright noted that RB Samaje Perine has the toughest climb to a roster spot. He is the expected cut candidate for most beat writers.
This puts a slight damper on the expectations for rookie RB Audric Estime who would be in-line for the Williams role if Williams had been cut.
