49ers RB Christian McCaffrey will be out of practice for a couple weeks due to a calf injury. He will not play in the preseason, but it is not a long-term situation, according to HC Kyle Shannahan.
Matt Maiocco: "Christian McCaffrey has a calf strain. It is not a long-term situation, coach Kyle Shanahan said. McCaffrey will likely not play in the preseason. He'll be out of practice a couple of weeks."
McCaffrey appears to be on track to start the season, but any injury is worth noting with McCaffrey's lengthy history.
This will be the fourth injury between his calf and thigh in McCaffrey's career.
With Shannahan commenting that it is not a long term issue, shutting down McCaffrey for the next few weeks is likely more precautionary than anything.
The 49ers will want to ensure he is 100% for Week 1.
He should still be one of the first players off the board in drafts, but look for updates about his injury.
McCaffrey suffered a calf injury in Week 17 last season, causing him to miss Week 18.
We are projecting him to miss three games this season with a 63.6% chance of injury in 2024.
