Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett took one drive in their preseason game against the Washington Commanders. The team reports that Brissett sustained a right shoulder injury and is questionable. With only 14 days until the Patriots season opener, his status is currently unknown.
Mike Reiss of ESPN: "The Patriots announce that QB Jacoby Brissett sustained a right shoulder injury tonight. While the plan was for him to play 1-2 series, his official designation is questionable, via the team."
Brissett and QB Drake Maye have been in a battle for the Week 1 starting QB job. It has appeared to be Brissett's to lose, but this shoulder injury could complicate the situation.
If Brissett can't start Week 1, Maye will likely be the starter.
It may be very difficult to bench the rookie once he is in the starting lineup, so this could lead to a full season of Maye (depending on the severity of Brissett's injury).
No matter the QB, it appears the Patriots are in line to be one of the worst offenses on paper and already are dead last in implied points per game according to sportsbooks.
It continues to be a fantasy situation to generally avoid.
We will update with more on the situation as it unfolds and when new injury information comes out.
