49ers RB Christian McCaffrey missed Monday Night's game with what was known as an ankle injury at the time. HC Kyle Shannahan revealed that McCaffrey is suffering from Achilles tendinitis, which can linger as pain and burning around the Achilles muscle.
McCaffrey was a surprise scratch last night, but reports have already surfaced that is in danger of missing Week 2 against the Vikings as well.
For the 1.01 in many fantasy drafts, this is a potential disaster if his injury lingers going forward.
Getting the diagnosis update from Shannahan as Achilles Tendinitis is a double edged sword.
It isn't a serious injury and McCaffrey should be back sooner rather than later, but it is an injury that can flare up and continue giving him issues over the course of the season without the opportunity to fully rest for weeks or months.
Hopefully you followed our Sleeper article and picked up RB Jordan Mason who filled in admirably last night for McCaffrey and now will have standalone value even when McCaffrey returns to the lineup.
McCaffrey owners should get used to playing a will he/won't he game with your fantasy lineups week to week for McCaffrey going forward.
