Josh Allen Completes Just Nine Passes In Week 5 Loss

Bills QB Josh Allen completed just nine of 30 passes for 131 yards and one TD in the Week 5 loss to the Texans. The majority of that production came on a 49-yard score to WR Keon Coleman. Otherwise, Allen mustered just 82 scoreless passing yards. The nine completions were his fewest in a full game since his 2018 rookie campaign. It was just his fifth career game with fewer than 140 passing yards. Allen at least added 54 rushing yards on four carries. He went for a concussion check after his head slammed against the turf in the fourth quarter, but Allen was evidently cleared and did not miss an offensive snap.

        2024 Fantasy Football Impact

Allen had some inaccurate passes and questionable decisions in this one. And he was missing top WR Khalil Shakir. But credit the Texans defense for getting consistent pressure on Allen and covering well downfield.

Allen has been an erratic fantasy performer so far this season, with two games of 33+ fantasy points but three under 15. His passing volume is down from 34.1 attempts per game last year to 26.2 this year. That's resulted in his per-game passing production sinking from 253 yards and 1.7 yards per game to 189 yards and 1.6 TDs.

Expect some rebound in the passing volume and yardage. The Bills have two blowout wins this season that have impacted those numbers. But this has been a run-leaning offense since OC Joe Brady took over, so the days of big passing numbers on a weekly basis are likely over for now.

Next up for Allen is a tough matchup at the Jets. Most fantasy owners will want to keep him in starting lineups for that one, but he won't sit in his usual place atop the QB Rankings for Week 6.
