According to his agent, Chargers RB Najee Harris sustained a superficial eye injury during a July Fourth event he attended. The Chargers themselves have not commented, but Harris' camp says that he will be ready for the upcoming NFL season.
Harris' Agent Doug Hendrickson (via Pro Football Talk): “Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees. Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season.”
If Hendrickson is being wholly accurate, then this likely won't affect Harris for this season. But, we will need more information before blindly trusting Harris' agent.
At the very least, any type of eye damage or issue could affect Harris' vision this season. At worst, this could be a lingering issue that is worse than currently reported.
Harris shouldn't drop far down fantasy rankings, but this can certainly be a tiebreaker to pass on him at ADP until more information is released.
Rookie RB Omarion Hampton benefits to gain from Harris either missing time or being ineffective. The Chargers selected Hampton in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
He figured to split with Harris, but if Harris becomes less effective due to this injury, Hampton could become the lead back sooner rather than later.
We will update with further information as it comes out.
