WR Terry McLaurin has asked the Commanders to trade him, according to multiple reports. This clearly indicates that he's not happy with the pace of negotations on the contract extension he's seeking. McLaurin skipped the first four days of training camp but reported to the team Sunday. He has been on the physically unable to perform list since then, with "an apparent ankle injury suffered last season," ESPN reports. McLaurin took part in spring workouts, so don't buy that explanation.
What They're Saying
GM Adam Peters on the first day of camp: "You'd like to get these things done quicker, but it doesn't always happen that way. Whatever happens along the way, just understand he's a great player and we want to keep him here."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
This step sure seems to indicate that the Commanders and McLaurin aren't close to agreeing on his contract worth. (Perhaps the team realizes the same thing we've been talking about on the podcast about McLaurin scoring well beyond his usage last year.)
Of course, these trade requests occur fairly often. They far less often produce a trade. But sometimes they do.
We'll see what happens with McLaurin. Either way, though, he doesn't appear close to returning to the field. Every passing day of that circumstance adds risk to a guy we already list as a negative fantasy football draft value by ADP.
