Commanders Lock Terry McLaurin Up Through 2028

The Commanders have agreed to a three-year extension with WR Terry McLaurin. According to multiple reports, the pact will pay him $96 million and put McLaurin under contract through 2028.

        What They're Saying

ESPN's Adam Schefter: "Deal: Washington and WR Terry McLaurin reached agreement today on a three-year contract extension that will end his hold-in and get him in uniform for the regular-season opener vs. the Giants, per sources."

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Being "in uniform" for the game doesn't necessarily mean McLaurin will be ready for a full snap allotment. We'll have to watch what the team and/or player reveal between now and that Sept. 7 contest.

Of course, we're assuming McLaurin has kept himself in shape. And the scheme should at least prove highly similar to last year's, if not totally the same. (OC Kliff Kingsbury remains in place.) So we're likely talking slight limitations vs. McLaurin's usual role, not the top WR missing from the Week 1 game plan.

The extension obviously removes McLaurin's biggest hurdle for both this year and beyond. But keep in mind the reasons to be a little wary of his fantasy production repeating last year's heights.

McLaurin feasted on the highest receiving TD rate of his career. His 5.3 TDs over expectation led the league and point to likely regression. McLaurin also finished just 34th among WRs in target share, and that came before Deebo Samuel arrived.

If McLaurin lasts to the bottom of WR2 range (or beyond), then he's a fine pick. That's where he sits in our WR rankings.

Any earlier, though, McLaurin looks more like a player to avoid.

        Dynasty Impact

The contract boosts McLaurin's dynasty outlook, at least slightly. The contract dispute presented at least some risk that the two sides would part ways and increase the WR's long-term uncertainty.

McLaurin should now be locked in with Washington for at least the next couple of years. That doesn't assuage concerns about his TD regression and limited target share. But it does keep him tied to one of the league's best young QBs.
