The 49ers ran a "bonus" practice Monday morning, and that included WR Jauan Jennings for the first time since late July, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. Jennings had been out with a calf injury, while also seeking a new contract.
What They're Saying
Wagoner: "Since departing from the team's fourth practice of training camp July 27 with a calf injury, Jennings has rarely been seen on side fields and has taken part in zero padded practices."
LT Trent Williams: "When a player is going through stuff like that, you just kind of let them go through it with the team. I think everybody in their career is going to have a [contract] standoff or battle of some sort. ... Obviously, Jauan is a hell of a player, one of our best players on the team. So, having him out there is really important."
G Dominick Puni: "He's my favorite player on the team. We just love him as an O-line and obviously as a receiver catching the ball. He is one of the best in the league too, but his run game ability is so fun to watch. He just dominates people."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
We commonly see players stick up for teammates in public comments. But those are pretty strong words from a pair of linemen about a WR who hadn't produced much before last season.
That seems to indicate -- at least -- that Jennings rates well in the locker room. And that likely matches his chances of reclaiming a large role in the offense as soon as he's healthy.
Of course, we'll have to watch this week to see just how healthy Jennings is and whether he's ready for normal playing time. We'll also see whether the contract scuffle creates any hurdles.
It'll ultimately be tough to trust Jennings in Week 1 fantasy football lineups. That's why you'll find him in WR4 territory of our Week 1 rankings.
But he remains an upside pick for the year, especially at an ADP depressed by the lost camp time.
