Panthers RB Rico Dowdle dominated the Dolphins with 206 yards and 1 score on 23 attempts. His 32.4 PPR points marked the fourth-best fantasy output for a RB this season.
What They're Saying
Dowdle called his shot in this one, apparently telling CB Jaycee Horn that he'd run for 180 yards against Miami.
"Just putting trust in those guys up front ... I definitely had great confidence in myself and those guys up front."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Miami entered as one of the NFL’s leakiest run defenses. Still, it was hard to foresee a performance of this magnitude. Dowdle routinely ripped off big gains and generated yards after contact. Predictably, he also stayed busy with Chuba Hubbard (calf) sidelined.
Dowdle’s carry share jumped from the 32-37% range with Hubbard to nearly 80% without. Rookie Trevor Etienne mixed in for only 14% of the carries. Dowdle also held the clear edge in routes (51% to 14%) and 2-minute snaps (75% to 13%).
So, congrats if you started Dowdle as an RB2/flex fill-in. But will he have another crack at the lead back role for Sunday’s “revenge game” against Dallas?
Well, HC Dave Canales indicated that Hubbard has a chance to return for Week 6.
"We just couldn't get Chuba around quickly enough to feel confident to put him out there," Canales said on Friday via USA Today. "So we thought this would be a good week to get him back to strength, back to health. We'll keep working on him through the weekend, and then take a look back at him early next week."
We’ll keep an eye on Hubbard’s status. But even if he returns, Dowdle’s Week 5 showing was the type to earn him more touches going forward.
