Vikings QB Carson Wentz will start Thursday night's game vs. the Chargers, HC Kevin O'Connell announced Tuesday. QB J.J. McCarthy "is not there yet" with his ankle, McCarthy said. The second-year QB was never likely to return on this short week, but we're tentatively expecting him back for Week 9.
There's been some good and some bad with Wentz over the last four weeks. He's completed 67% of his passes at 7.5 yards per attempt and averaged 268 yards per game. But he's also tossed four INTs and taken 14 sacks.
Wentz remains just a QB2 for fantasy purposes. But he's done well to support Minnesota's top three pass catchers. Justin Jefferson ranks 11th among WRs in PPR points per game with Wentz, Jordan Addison ranks eighth, and even TE T.J. Hockenson ranks a decent 14th at his position.
