Colts Leaned on Daniel Jones Even When They Probably Didn't Need to

        Daniel Jones Headshot

You probably expected Sunday's (predictable) win over the Titans to include the Colts just mercilessly hammering RB Jonathan Taylor at an already-soft defensive front missing a pair of starters. And Taylor's large stat line -- 153 rushing yards, 3 total TDs (again) -- seemed to confirm that. But Taylor ran just 12 times for the game, and the Colts instead leaned pass basically from the start.

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Taylor ran for 12 yards on Indy's first play, on the game's opening drive. But QB Daniel Jones then dropped back on the next eight plays before the team kicked a 43-yard FG.

By halftime, Jones had logged 19 pass attempts, taken three sacks, and scrambled once vs. just eight carries (for 72 yards and a TD) for Taylor. And the Colts led 17-7.

Indy scored the next 21 points after the break -- before a late Titans TD -- but Taylor rushed only four more times. (Though one of those was an 80-yard TD that served as the Colts' entire first possession of the second half.) Taylor and Jones both left the game after their 19-yard TD connection at the start of the fourth quarter.

The QB finished 21-of-29 for 272 yars and a season-high 3 TDs. Jones threw no INTs for the second straight game and sixth time in eight Colts outings. He cracked 70% completions for the fifth time. And he reached 9.0+ yards per pass attempt for the fourth time.

It was the fourth straight week of multiple TD passes for Jones.

How's the Rest of the Season Look?

Jones now gets a strongly positive matchup with a Steelers D that has already struggled and just lost top safety DeShon Elliott to injury.

Then, however, come his three worst remaining matchups, sandwiching a Week 11 bye:

        • vs. Atlanta
        • at Kansas City
        • vs. Houston

Don't be surprised if Jones winds up outside the top 12 in our QB rankings for any of those three weeks, especially with his rushing production all but disappearing over the past five games.

But you also shouldn't be looking to unseat this guy as your lead fantasy QB the rest of the way, if he's been perched there to this point.
