IDP Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 6
This list of IDP waiver wire pickups is sorted by position, and then by priority.
Of course, IDP leagues vary widely by depth, scoring rules, and lineup settings. So to get the best measure of who to pick up in your league, check your Free Agent Finder.
It's the best fantasy football waiver wire assistant you'll find.
Greg Rousseau, Edge, Buffalo Bills
Rousseau has gone quiet since a 3-sack opener, but that should change soon.
Each of the four games since has included either a tackle for loss or 2+ QB hits. That means Rousseau continues to get into opponent backfields. According to Pro Football Focus, only seven edge players have tallied more pressures through five weeks than Rousseau’s 21.
You might be wary after Rousseau notched just 1 tackle in the loss to Houston. But he also supplied a season-high 3 QB hits in that game.
Next comes a visit to Aaron Rodgers, who took 8 sacks over his past two games and is playing on a sprained ankle. After that comes a home date with Tennessee, which has averaged 5 sacks allowed across Will Levis’ three full outings.
Josh Sweat, Edge, Philadelphia Eagles
Sweat and the Eagles return from their Week 5 bye to face an extremely sack-friendly Browns offense.
Deshaun Watson has taken a league-high 26 sacks through five games. That’s 5.2 per contest. Cleveland leads the league in sack rate and trails New England by just 0.3 percentage points for the lead in pressure rate.
Sweat tallied just 1 sack through the first four games, but he leads Philly in QB hits and is one of just two Eagles with 10+ total pressures.
Sweat looks like a Week 6 sleeper for sack/pressure-friendly IDP leagues. DT Jalen Carter could also have a big week.
Travon Walker, Edge, Jacksonville Jaguars
Walker opened the year with a pair of sacks at Miami before going into stat hibernation for three weeks.
But he re-emerged Sunday for 3 sacks and a career-high 7 pressures in the victory over the Colts.
I’m still not sure how much I believe in the former first overall pick, but he’s got upside matchups the next two weeks to keep proving himself.
The Bears’ and Patriots’ starting QBs rank eighth and third in sack rate, respectively, through five weeks.
C.J. Mosley, LB, New York Jets
Mosley missed his third straight game Sunday in London, but he’s trending in the right direction.
The Jets listed him as limited on each day’s practice report ahead of the loss to the Vikings. Mosley still hit the weekend “doubtful.” But that marked significant improvement after Mosley sat out every practice the previous two weeks.
That should put him on pace to return for a Week 6 home date with Buffalo.
DeMarvion Overshown, LB, Dallas Cowboys
Overshown displayed his upside with a big Week 1 at Cleveland, but Dallas has impeded his progress.
The second-year LB went from 58% playing time in the opener to just 31% in Week 2. That has rebounded since, to 78% and 86% before his first 100% outing Sunday night at Pittsburgh.
That’s enough to have me starting Overshown in Week 6 against Detroit, which should certainly motivate the Cowboys to maximize their LB speed.
And if the strong playing time continues, Overshown should be a weekly fantasy starter on the other side of the Week 7 bye.
Trevin Wallace, LB, Carolina Panthers
The Panthers rookie racked up 15 tackles in his first start Sunday, including 27% of the team’s solos in the loss to the Bears.
Carolina won’t have LB Shaq Thompson for the rest of the season, which should keep Wallace at least near full time going forward. And LB Josey Jewell didn’t practice at all ahead of Sunday’s game after sustaining hamstring and groin injuries in Week 4. That makes him no lock to return for Week 6.
Wallace should be in good position for more tackle opportunities going forward. He’ll sit lower in our Week 6 rankings, though, against the Falcons. Atlanta has supplied the fewest LB points in the league so far.
Charvarius Ward, CB, San Francisco 49ers
Ward sits outside the top 80 scorers at DB so far. And he told Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle after the loss to Arizona, “I feel like I’m playing some of the worst ball of my career.”
That doesn’t help the 49ers, but it could help him put up a nice Week 6 fantasy line – if he’s healthy.
Ward and the Niners play Thursday night against Seattle, which has supplied the second-most fantasy points to DBs so far. That includes a tie with Houston for most total tackles supplied to DBs.
If the Seahawks agree with Ward about his struggles, they’ll only have more incentive to target him in coverage. The league’s leader in pass attempts hardly needs such motivation.
We’ll have to watch Ward’s health, though, after San Francisco listed him as a non-participant on Monday’s estimated practice report.
He played 55 of 58 snaps against the Cardinals, though. My guess is he’ll be ready.
Vonn Bell, S, Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals match up this week with the Giants, who have yielded the third-most fantasy points per game to opponent DBs.
That included three Seattle DBs going for 7+ tackles in Sunday’s game and Dallas DBs collective 5 passes defensed the game before.
Bell gets the nod here for his mix of:
- “box” snaps (58% of his season total, per PFF)
- slot coverage (season-high 15 snaps in Week 5, with CB Mike Hilton out)
- and secondary-leading 32 total tackles
The Giants have also turned the ball over at least once every week.
