Saints RB Alvin Kamara (knee, ankle) is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Dolphins. He’s not expected to be placed on IR, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, so we should see Kamara back within the next few weeks. His absence this weekend leaves rookie Devin Neal as New Orleans’ likely lead back, although TE Taysom Hill and potentially RB Audric Estime will also be involved. Consider Neal just a RB3 or Flex play.

Alvin Kamara sprained his right MCL early in the Saints' Week 12 loss to Atlanta. After Kamar departed the game, Devin Neal played 57 of the team's final 66 snaps and was the only RB to receive a carry or target. Neal didn't find a lot of running room, rushing for just 18 yards on his 7 attempts, but he did catch 5-of-7 targets for 43 yards.

The severity of the sprain will determine how long Kamara will be sidelined. "He could take a little time, but nothing that's super serious or threatening long term," Underhill writes. "Hard to know how long. Alvin and his team often beat timelines." We should learn more about Kamara's injury over the next day or two, but consider him more likely than not to miss Week 13's game against the Dolphins. Devin Neal will take over as the Saints' lead back if Kamara misses time. He's far from an exciting fantasy option but could provide RB3-level production. We also saw Taysom Hill tally eight carries in the second half of the Falcons game.

Kamara logged his second straight six carries in Sunday's lopsided loss to the Rams. It was New Orleans' third consecutive loss by double digits and the second straight by 20+ points. That would seem like good conditions for Kamara's target volume, at least. But the veteran has seen three targets or fewer in three straight games and totaled 6 catches for 28 yards over that span.

The Saints selected Kansas RB Devin Neal with the 184th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Neal drew college interest as a football and baseball player. He broke out as a true freshman on the gridiron, entering the starting lineup in Week 2 and finishing with 159-705-8. He followed up that season with three straight 1,000+ yard campaigns for the Jayhawks. He added 16 TDs on the ground in each of the past two seasons. Neal checks a lot of boxes: consistent rushing production, promising receiving tape, NFL size, and make-you-miss ability. His vision and rushing tempo also pop on film. At the NFL Combine, he showed below-average speed with a 4.58 forty time and a 1.59 ten-yard split. He excelled in the jumps, though, with a 37.5” broad and a 124" vertical.
