Texans, Joe Mixon Saga Ends In Release

        2:28pm UTC 3/7/26

The Texans released RB Joe Mixon, according to multiple reports. Mixon requested the move, and the team probably had no issue obliging considering how the last 12 months played out. Mixon suffered a foot injury away from the team last offseason and missed the entire 2025 campaign. The move saves Houston $8 million in cap space.

        Joe Mixon Uncertain For 2026

        7:57pm UTC 1/21/26

Texans RB Joe Mixon remains uncertain for 2026, GM Nick Caserio said at Wednesday's end-of-season press conference. Caserio didn't give many details on Mixon's foot, calling it a "freak" injury. "It was more of a medical condition or situation that never ... really didn't improve maybe as much as everybody would have hoped," he said. Caserio added that the team isn't exactly sure where Mixon is at in his recovery. "We haven't seen Joe in a little bit, so I think at some point we'll see him and then we'll be able to evaluate kind of where he is and then based on information, we'll see where his status is." This has been and remains a weird situation. We'll keep you updated on Mixon's status throughout the offseason. He has one year but no guaranteed money left on his contract, so he'd be a relatively easy cut. Dynasty managers should not be counting on Mixon in 2026 or beyond. And he's probably best just avoiding in best-ball drafts until we know more about his health.

Joe Mixon Not Expected To Play This Season

        6:46pm UTC 11/20/25

Texans RB Joe Mixon (foot) is not expected to return this season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That's seemed pretty clear for a while now, but it's nice to get confirmation. We still know very little about the offseason foot injury that will evidently cost Mixon the entire 2025 campaign. He's signed with Houston next year, but Rapoport notes that the team can save $8.5 million in cap space by releasing Mixon after the start of the 2026 league year. Mixon will turn 30 in July and is not a must-hold on dynasty rosters. Rookie Woody Marks figures to operate as Houston's clear lead back the rest of the season.

Joe Mixon "Making Progress" With Injury

        7:05pm UTC 10/7/25

Texans GM Nick Caserio said Tuesday that RB Joe Mixon is "making progress" with his ankle injury. "Over the next few weeks, we’ll have a better idea," Caserio added. It's the first positive report we've heard on Mixon since July. Fantasy managers still should not be counting on Mixon this season, but it at least sounds like there's a chance we see him on the field at some point. That would complicate matters for RBs Woody Marks and Nick Chubb.

Still No Timetable For Joe Mixon's Return

        6:30pm UTC 9/29/25

Texans HC Demeco Ryans said Monday that RB Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) will remain on the non-football injury list for the time being. Mixon is eligible to be activated this week, but insider Aaron Wilson writes that "there is no specific timetable for when or if he will return this season." Mixon is not a must-hold in fantasy leagues without an IR spot. The pessimism only makes RB Woody Marks a higher priority add in leagues he's still available.

Will Joe Mixon Play This Year? "We'll See."

        3:09pm UTC 8/27/25

Texans GM Nick Caserio wouldn't say Wednesday whether RB Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) will play at all this year. "We'll see, we'll take it one day at a time," Caserio said. Mixon will miss at least the first four games of the season on the reserve/non-football injury list. "Once we get through four weeks, we'll evaluate it at that time," Caserio added.

What's the Joe Mixon Injury and When Will He Return?

        2:35pm UTC 8/16/25

Texans RB Joe Mixon hasn't been on the field in a while, and we've seen alternating reports of ankle injury and foot injury. So which is it? Seems like some sort of combo.
