Tyler Shough Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

The New Orleans Saints have named Spencer Rattler as the team’s Week 1 starting QB, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Saints’ QBs Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough will both suit up in New Orleans’ final preseason game against the Broncos, according to Mike Triplett of New Orleans Football.

The fantasy football market has clearly assumed that second-round rookie Tyler Shough will start at QB right away in New Orleans. But the Saints clearly aren't assuming too much so far. The team has reportedly rotated its top three QBs through first-team work evenly through early training camp.

Saints QB Spencer Rattler appears to be leading the battle despite some up-and-down play in training camp so far, according to WWL Radio's Jeff Nowak. He ran with the first team today. His competition, rookie Tyler Shough, has been fairly risk-averse over the first few days. Jake Haener is also in the mix. The situation remains unresolved.

Saints QB Derek Carr has announced he'll retire. We already knew there was a chance he'd miss some or all of the coming season because of an injury to his right shoulder. But this news obviously heightens the importance of rookie QB Tyler Shough's quick development and/or another plan for a "bridge" starter.

We finally have more details on Saints QB Derek Carr's shoulder injury. NFL Network's Jane Slater reports that Carr believes he suffered the injury in Week 14, the same game in which he suffered a wrist injury that ended his season. He didn't realize the shoulder was hurt until he started ramping up his throwing well into this offseason. Carr is trying to avoid surgery on the shoulder, per Slater, but still needs to see if it's something he'll be able to play through. Carr has been at the Saints' facility twice recently to meet with team doctors, and a decision on surgery is expected "sooner than later," Slater adds.

The Saints selected Louisville QB Tyler Shough with the 40th pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. Shough spent seven years in college – three at Oregon, three at Texas Tech, and one at Louisville – and turns 26 in September. He’s a week older than Trevor Lawrence. And he dealt with multiple injuries in college: a broken collarbone in both 2021 and 2022 and a broken left leg in 2023. Shough’s numbers are not very impressive, either. He completed more than 63.5% of his passes in just one season and owns a career 63.0% completion rate. Shough completed 62.7% of his passes at Louisville last year but did set career highs with 3,195 passing yards, 23 passing TDs, and an 87.7 Pro Football Focus passing grade. Shough has prototypical size at 6’5, 219 pounds – and the tape grinders like him. He has an efficient release with plus arm strength and can make throws from muddy pockets. He also possesses above-average athleticism. Shough ran for just 132 yards last year but averaged 42 rushing yards per game over the previous four seasons. He registered a 9.70 Relative Athletic Score at the Combine. Shough struggles when pressured, though, and his advanced age gives him less room for growth than most rookie QBs.
