Philip Rivers Signs to the Colts Practice Squad
Philip Rivers Signs to the Colts Practice Squad
The Indianapolis Colts have signed veteran QB Philip Rivers to their practice squad. With QB Riley Leonard week-to-week with a knee injury, Rivers bolsters the QB depth in case he is needed. He will compete with QB Brett Rypien, also on the practice squad, for the back-up job. But, it isn’t out of the question for Rivers to start at some point with the Colts trying to claw their way into the playoffs.
Riley Leonard’s Status In Question This Week
Riley Leonard’s Status In Question This Week
Colts QB Riley Leonard entered the game against the Jaguars in relief of Daniel Jones after he tore his Achilles. HC Shane Steichen revealed that Leonard himself is dealing with a knee injury making his status for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks uncertain. Steichen also commented that QB Anthony Richardson would not be activated this week, so practice squad QB Brett Rypien could become the Colts’ starter.
Jets dump Tim Boyle, add Brett Rypien
Jets dump Tim Boyle, add Brett Rypien
The Jets will release QB Tim Boyle, according to CBS Sports' Josina Anderson. QB Brett Rypien is being signed off the Seahawks' practice squad in a corresponding move. We'll see who the Jets toss under center for this weekend's game vs. the Texans, but the passing game will continue to stink regardless.
Rams add Carson Wentz
Rams add Carson Wentz
The Rams are signing Carson Wentz. What's this mean for the QB situation? It likely means that the team saw enough of Brett Rypien in Sunday's ugly loss to the Packers. The Rams waited until Sunday to officially rule QB Matthews Stafford out, so we can only assume his injured right thumb will be ready for game action after the Week 10 bye. That would leave Wentz as ostensibly the new backup. Frankly, we're wondering why some other team with a shaky QB situation didn't take this shot earlier. Wentz can be stashed in deeper superflex leagues, just in case there's any setback with Stafford's thumb.
Matt Stafford INACTIVE
Matt Stafford INACTIVE
Rams QB Matt Stafford (thumb) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Packers. He reportedly made progress throughout the week, setting him up to play after Los Angeles’ Week 10 bye. QB Brett Rypien makes his fourth NFL start and first for the Rams today. He sports a career 61% completion rate and 5.9 yards per attempt. Expect a conservative, run-leaning attack from the Rams today.
