The Vikings are signing WR Justin Jefferson to a four-year extension, according to NFL Network. The $140 million deal includes $110 million in guarantees and will make him the highest-paid non-QB in the league.
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
There shouldn't be any 2024 impact from this extension, given that Jefferson already remained under contract for the coming season. Getting the deal out of the way at least removes that potential distraction, though.
Dynasty Impact
No one truly worried about Jefferson's status in Minnesota, with the extension considered a sure thing. He's now locked in with the Vikings through 2028.
Jefferson turns 25 this month. That means this contract will run through his age-29 season. We'll see as we get closer to that point whether Jefferson will have another big contract beyond that. Our historical aging data suggests it's likely.
According to that data, "great" Round 1-type WRs have still delivered 93% of their peak production in that age-30 season -- and then 90% at 31.
Other Winners & Losers
WR Jordan Addison might have been better off if Jefferson left town and opened up more target share. But few (if any) thought that would happen, so there's no real impact on Addison's dynasty outlook.
Getting Jefferson locked up can only help the outlook for QB J.J. McCarthy, who should have a nice pair of WRs for the foreseeable future.
One other non-fantasy "winner" figures to be CeeDee Lamb. Jefferson's 2020 draft classmate is also in line for an extension and now has a large new number to point to in negotiations. We'll see whether Jefferson's deal speeds up Lamb's process.
