WR Brandon Aiyuk indicated a couple times over the past week that he's likely to remain with the 49ers for at least the 2024 season. He first said on The Pivot podcast about what jersey he'll be wearing, "If I were to take a guess, probably a Niners uniform." Aiyuk later told TMZ he's "for sure" ready to play in San Francisco this season. The wideout remains under contract through 2024, but the two sides have reportedly stalled out in negotiations on an extension beyond that. Aiyuk has fueled trade rumors with negative takes via social media about his relationship with the team.
Aiyuk went on to name other potential teams he could play for on The Pivot: "Probably a Niners uniform, but if not a Niners uniform, probably a Washington Commander uniform. If not a Washington Commanders uniform, then probably a Steelers uniform."
Aiyuk on a meeting with 49ers brass: "They told me that they didn't think that we're on the same page, and that they didn't believe we were going to, and that was about it at that time. But it's part of it, it's part of that contract negotiations, trying to sway stuff in either direction, so whether that's 100 percent true or not, I guess that's still to find out."
There's no fantasy impact here until/unless Aiyuk actually gets traded somewhere. We're currently betting he'll return to San Francisco. But there have been more shocking WR trades in recent years than this one would be.
You also shouldn't let this contract uncertainty downgrade Aiyuk's dynasty outlook. His second-round best ball ADP shows that drafters aren't concerned for this season. If you find a dynasty league mate who is worried at all about Aiyuk, consider it a buying opportunity.
Assuming there's no trade before training camp, the next watch will be for whether he reports on time. Everyone will be watching.
A loaded supporting cast, improved QB play, and offensive continuity set the stage for Atlanta to deliver serious fantasy value in 2025.
