Lions WR Jameson Williams had a strong spring and has rolled that momentum into the start of training camp, according to The Athletic's Colton Pouncy. "Williams is firmly entrenched as one of the guys," Pouncy writes. "This is the best I’ve seen him look with Jared Goff."
More from Pouncy: "This time a year ago, we’d see drops, overthrows on deep balls because of their lack of time together, a bit of everything. But now that they’ve got some much-needed time on task, it’s starting to come together."
"Williams has been getting open against the secondary routinely. He’s been getting the ball on end-arounds. He’s coming off the sideline after a series and picking the brain of Goff or Ben Johnson. He’s also playing with a competitive energy that hasn’t quite been there since his days at Alabama. I like what I’m seeing early on."
Williams had a rocky start to his NFL career but earned more playing time over the second half of last season. That notably continued in the playoffs, with Williams registering 70%, 58%, and 72% snap rates.
With WR Josh Reynolds now in Denver, Williams has a clear path to the No. 2 WR job in an offense that's implied for the second-most points this season.
Consistent volume might be tough to find in a pass-catching corps led by WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and TE Sam LaPorta. But Williams at least looks like a good bet for multiple spike weeks. He's a nice pick at his current WR48 best-ball ADP.
