Jets HC Robert Saleh talked up RB Braelon Allen's passing-game ability after Saturday's preseason game. Allen caught just two of four targets for 12 yards in that one but has reportedly been impressing with his route running and pass protection in camp.
What They're Saying
Saleh on Allen: “We picked him for a lot of reasons, because he’s actually really good out of the backfield and route-running, he’s really good in protection, too. We think he’s an all-around good back and he’s a very powerful runner, too, and he’s displaying that, down in and down out.”
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
Allen wasn't necessarily known for his pass-catching skills coming out of of Wisconsin, but he did catch 28 balls last year.
Don't expect him to steal many passing-down snaps from a healthy RB Breece Hall this season. But it sure sounds like a Hall injury would turn Allen into a three-down back for the Jets. He's a strong handcuff to stash on fantasy benches.
Dynasty Impact
This also bodes well for Allen's longer-term dynasty outlook, although he's stuck behind Hall for at least two more seasons.
The good news for Allen is that he doesn't turn 21 until January. He could be a RB who produces well on his second NFL contract.
