Jaguars RB Tank Bigsby had a buzzy summer last year and opened the season as Jacksonville's clear No. 2 RB. But he wound up having an awful rookie season, averaging 2.6 yards per carry, fumbling twice, and dropping three of his four targets. Bigsby is again having a strong summer and drawing praise from coaches and beat writers. So will he actually be a factor this year?
HC Doug Pederson: “I think Tank has a bigger role this year, going into Year 2. It’s something that we’ve been looking at. We definitely know we gotta take a little bit off of Travis [Etienne] and keep him healthy for an entire season… I think Tank’s role can definitely increase, especially in those short yardage situations."
Bigsby has backed up a strong training camp with nice production through two preseason games. He's averaged 5.0 yards across 13 carries, with 61 of his 65 yards coming after contact. Bigsby has even managed to catch all four of his targets.
As ugly as last year was, Bigsby is certainly capable of taking a big step forward in year two. The Jaguars didn't make any significant additions to the backfield this offseason, so his path to the No. 2 RB job remains clear.
We're still not expecting Bigsby to have standalone fantasy value behind a healthy Etienne. But Bigsby is looking like a high-value handcuff with starting potential in fantasy lineups if Etienne misses time.
