49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk was a no-show for Wednesday's practice. The team had been understanding of Aiyuk's hold-in during training camp but wanted him back on the field on Wednesday as prep starts for Week 1.
HC Kyle Shanahan before Wednesday's practice: "I haven't heard anything. I've been working on the 53-[man roster], the practice squad — I haven't talked to him. I know he's been cleared by our doctors so I hope that he's out there practicing today."
GM John Lynch: "At some point, you've got to play."
This situation seems to be reaching a boiling point. The 49ers were reportedly close to trading Aiyuk earlier this month -- and then seemed close to agreeing to a new deal. Neither happened. And now Aiyuk's status remains in limbo with the team's opener just 12 days away.
We haven't touched Aiyuk's projections until now. We're lowering his floor projection to account for the risk of this holdout spilling into the season. That moves Aiyuk down from 17th to 19th in the WR rankings.
Aiyuk's ADP has plummeted from the late second round to the middle of the fourth over the past couple of months. His price figures to keep dropping until this situation is resolved.
