The 49ers and WR Brandon Aiyuk have agreed to a four-year extension that will keep him in San Francisco through 2028, according to multiple sources. The "front-loaded" deal carries $120 million in total, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, with $76 million guaranteed.
Guess he won't be getting traded.
Aiyuk's $30 million annual average beats teammate Deebo Samuel by more than $6 million and ties him with Tyreek Hill for fifth among all wideouts.
That commitment obviously solidifies Aiyuk's high-level role in the San Francisco offense. He led last year's 49ers in targets, receptions, and yards, tying Samuel and Christian McCaffrey for the lead in TD receptions.
Aiyuk also ranked 18th among all WRs in target share last season, six spots ahead of Samuel.
The teammates figure to once again sit close in fantasy scoring. We'll see whether all the time away from practice impacts Aiyuk -- especially early in the season.
His return can only help QB Brock Purdy and the offense on whole.
This extension locks in Aiyuk as a WR2 in our dynasty rankings. His situation, though, limits his target upside and leaves him relying heavily on strong efficiency in the yardage and TD categories.
That could lead Aiyuk to be overrated in your league.
We recently knocked Aiyuk down in our 2024 WR rankings, but only by two spots. Anywhere in the WR15-20 range makes sense for him -- with risk that he opens the year a little rusty.
Expect Aiyuk's ADP to rebound now that the contract squabble is over. Beware not to overpay for the buzz off the extension news.
A loaded supporting cast, improved QB play, and offensive continuity set the stage for Atlanta to deliver serious fantasy value in 2025.
