Lions TE Sam LaPorta mustered only two catches for 13 scoreless yards in the Week 2 loss to the Bucs. That's even more disappointing when you consider the Lions ran 84 plays and threw 56 passes. LaPorta's three targets tied for sixth on the team and were just 5.4% of the Lions' total. His playing time remained solid, at least: An 88% snap rate and 83% route rate.
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
LaPorta has totaled just six catches for 58 scoreless yards through two games. He didn't have a two-game stretch with fewer PPR points all last season.
LaPorta's playing time has been fine. The problem has been volume. He's garnered only eight targets for a 9.5% share through two games. LaPorta drew 19.8% of Lions targets in his big rookie season.
LaPorta's target share will certainly climb from here. But he'll have trouble matching last year's mark. WR Jameson Williams has emerged as a big part of this passing game, while WR Amon-Ra St. Brown and RB Jahmyr Gibbs will continue to command plenty of targets. There are a lot of mouths to feed in Detroit.
LaPorta probably won't pay off his pricey 2024 ADP. But he's still a good bet for a top-five fantasy season considering his talent, playing time, and the strength of this Lions offense.
He's much closer to a buy than a sell right now.
