Titans RB Tony Pollard ran for just 45 yards on 17 carries in Sunday's loss to the Bengals. He scored a TD but also drew 0 targets for the first time all season. Blame a lack of opportunities. Pollard ran a mere 7 pass routes compared to 27 for Tyjae Spears, according to Pro Football Focus. That followed Spears edging Pollard 16-12 in Week 14 routes.
Pollard did enter the game with an ankle issue that cost him two days of practice and rendered him questionable.
Was that the primary driver for his decreased time in passing situations? Or is Spears just working ahead in that area?
Pollard rushed 17 times to Spears' 4. It'd seem a little strange from here for Tennessee to play ankle preservation by removing Pollard for pass plays while giving him 81% of the RB carries.
And that makes the usage of the past two weeks more worrisome for Pollard's outlook.
Fortunately for him, the Titans get much weaker offenses from Indy and Jacksonville the next two weeks. That should mean less chance the Titans being pressed into passing more often.
But the backfield split figures to keep Pollard closer to the bottom of RB2 territory than floating any higher in our rankings.
