Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin had a second surgery on his left ankle this spring, ESPN's Jenna Laine reports. Godwin's 2024 season ended when he dislocated the ankle in October. This latest procedure was described to Laine as a "minor" clean-out, and Godwin is "doing well." He's opening training camp on the PUP list, though, and we don't have a timetable for his return to the field.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
It's unclear what this second procedure means for Godwin's chances of being ready for the start of the season. But the Buccaneers have been non-committal on his Week 1 availability all along. He certainly comes with elevated risk in fantasy drafts until we see him back on the field.
That said, we're still in the middle of July. And Godwin is an established veteran who can afford to miss some practice time.
We'll see what happens to his ADP from here. If he gets significantly cheaper than his current WR37 price tag, he'll be worth gambling on. We're talking about a guy who was sitting 13th among WRs in PPR points per game through Week 7 last year.
Other Winners & Losers
WR Emeka Egbuka is the name to watch here. If Godwin isn't ready for the start of the season, the rookie would likely operate as Tampa Bay's No. 2 WR. That'd give him a good shot to be a fantasy starter right away. And a strong start could lock Egbuka into a big role even when Godwin returns.
