Tests today revealed that Patriots RB Antonio Gibson tore his ACL last night against the Buffalo Bills. Gibson was injured on a kick return in the second quarter and was ruled out quickly. Gibson’s absence will open up more opportunities in the backfield for rookie RB TreVeyon Henderson, who operated as the lead back Sunday night after the Gibson injury.

Adam Schefter of ESPN: “Tests today revealed that Patriots RB Antonio Gibson suffered a season-ending torn ACL, per sources.”
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
The Patriots opened the season with a three-headed backfield of Antonio Gibson, TreVeyon Henderson, and Rhamondre Stevenson, each used at different times. Gibson logged 25 carries for 106 yards and a touchdown before his injury.
After Gibson went down, the Patriots leaned even more on the pass. Henderson played a season-high 50% of the offensive snaps in that game.
The backfield could now shrink to two RBs, though New England will likely add a backup. That should give Henderson a chance to finally make a fantasy impact as both a runner and receiver with Gibson’s snaps available.
Stevenson has fumbled three times over the past two games and lost snaps between the 20s to Henderson after the injury. He remained involved in the red zone, however, scoring two rushing touchdowns in the second half.
We’ll look for more clarity on the backfield, but increased usage could finally set up a breakout for Henderson.
