        Trevor Lawrence Meh in Opener

By Matt Schauf | Updated on Mon, Sep 8 2025 4:36 AM UTC
        Trevor Lawrence Headshot

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence managed just 178 passing yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT in a Week 1 matchup with the Panthers. Carolina finished last season as the second-friendliest matchup for QB scoring by our adjusted fantasy points allowed. Lawrence completed 19 of 31 passes while taking no sacks and just one QB hit. He ran twice for 14 yards, ceding 2 of those yards to a pair of game-ending kneel downs.

        What They're Saying

Lawrence: "Good start! Let's keep building."

ESPN's Dan Orlovsky: "Most confident Trevor Lawrence has looked in 2 years."

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Lawrence should tweet something like that as the franchise QB after his team easily wins the opener, even if his own performance lagged.

Orlovsky? ... Let's just say his opinions vary in their veracity.

Things worked out for Lawrence and the Jaguars on Sunday, at least in part because they faced an opponent that still looks inferior to most teams. But Lawrence will need to deliver better performances to elevate his team -- and especially to help any fantasy rosters.

He targeted rookie WR Travis Hunter a team-high eight times. WR Brian Thomas Jr. checked in second at seven targets but caught just one of them.

It was the first game under a new coaching staff, so we're willing to give some leeway. But we'll be watching for improvement -- or lack thereof -- from the pass offense over the next few weeks.

Jacksonville gets an upside matchup at Cincinnati in Week 2, before a potentially tougher spot vs. Houston in Week 3.
