Here's the Biggest Problem with Kenneth Walker's Usage

By Matt Schauf | Updated on Tue, Oct 21 2025 11:35 AM UTC
        Kenneth Walker III Headshot

Kenneth Walker III led Seattle in carries (17) and rushing yards (66) in Monday night's win over the Texans. But he (again) ceded the highest-value touches to RB Zach Charbonnet. The latter carried 12 times for 49 years but scored both Seattle rushing TDs, from 1 and 2 yards out. Charbonnet also claimed the backfield's only two targets for the game, catching both for 6 yards.

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Walker leads the Seahawks in both total carries (95) and carries per game (13.6). But Charbonnet leads Walker in both red-zone carries and rushing attempts inside the 5-yard line, despite playing one fewer game.

Monday night's contest found Charbonnet scoring his first short-range TD on a possession that included Walker garnering the first two carries. It's not the first time this season that we've seen Seattle replace Walker with Charbonnet near the goal line.

Charbonnet has also matched or led Walker in targets in each of the four games since he returned from injury. And it's not an accident. Charbonnet has run more pass routes than Walker in each of those four games, including a 15-12 edge vs. Houston.

Walker remains the more dynamic runner of the two and continues to "start" each game. But two of his three rushing scores came in the Week 3 contest that Charbonnet missed. And the other came from 19 yards out in Week 2.

In the four games since Charbonnet returned, Walker has logged two total carries inside the 10-yard line, according to Pro Football Reference. Charbs has eight over the same span. He leads Walker 12-5 in that category for the season.

You've probably noticed the two Seattle backs landing basically next to each other in our weekly RB rankings for a while now. Charbonnet's favor near the goal line and in the passing game, though, keeps making it harder to start Walker ahead of him.

We'll watch for any coach speak on the backfield split around the Seahawks' Week 8 bye. They'll return for the league's most difficult remaining RB schedule by our adjusted fantasy points allowed.

That makes it tough to like either Seattle RB the rest of the way.
