RB James Conner and the Cardinals have agreed to a revised contract to keep him in Arizona for the 2026 season. "Conner was set to earn $6.39 million in 2026 with a $9.83 million cap hit. To avoid being released for cap savings, Conner's deal was revised," ESPN's Josh Weinfuss writes.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Although we don’t yet have the details of James Conner’s new contract, it’s clear he took a pay cut to remain in Arizona.
Conner suffered a season-ending right ankle injury in Week 3 last year. The exact nature of the injury was never disclosed, and there’s been little reporting on his recovery this offseason. We’re assuming he’ll be ready for the start of the 2026 campaign, but it’s something we’ll continue to monitor.
Conner’s performance was already trending down before the injury. He averaged just 3.0 yards per carry and posted career lows with 2.16 yards after contact per attempt and a 63.3 Pro Football Focus rushing grade last year.
Turning 31 in May, Conner is far from a lock to reclaim Arizona’s lead job. The Cardinals return RB Trey Benson and will likely add another back via free agency or the draft.
Conner's 13th-round, RB45 ADP is cheap enough to take some shots on him if you're doing multiple early draft. But he's certainly not a priority target.
