James Conner headlines our Expert Moves to Make

Best Week 10 Moves

Whether you're playing redraft, dynasty, or even DFS, knowing what moves to make is crucial to success.

That's why we're having each of our fantasy football pros give you one move to take advantage of this week.

Check back every week for new moves!

Get Some Justin Herbert

Headshot of Justin Herbert

Matt Schauf

Yeah, that’s a little vague. But that’s on purpose. Because I think Herbert can help a variety of situations.

First off, we’ve seen both him and the Chargers passing game improve this season.

We’ve highlighted L.A.’s shift to a passing lean several times over the past few weeks. I mentioned it in writing up WR Ladd McConkey as a Week 8 “hold.” And they’ve kept going.

Over the past four weeks, the Chargers rank second in the league in pass rate over expected.

Herbert, meanwhile, has gone from these numbers over the first four weeks:

  • 144.5 yards per game
  • 1.3 TDs per game
  • 6.35 yards per attempt
  • 64.8% completions

… to these over the past four:

  • 286.8 yards per game
  • 1.3 TDs per game
  • 8.69 yards per attempt
  • 65.2% completions

And those latter numbers get even better if you take out the Week 5 visit to a tough Denver pass defense.

Herbert’s weekly PFF grades also point to a guy improving as he has moved further away from the season-opening foot injury.

PFF Grades for Justin Herbert

I picked up Herbert over Daniel Jones in one league this week because I like him better as a Geno Smith platoon partner the rest of the way – and I wouldn’t be surprised if Herbert outscores Jones this week.

Shane also highlighted the Chargers QB as a potential dynasty buy right now.

Stash Jaylen Wright

Jared Smola

This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve recommended this move. But I want to highlight it again for a few reasons.

For starters, Wright remains available in over 80% of Sleeper leagues. That’s way too high.

The rookie has continued to pop on tape with his power and explosion. He’s now averaging 5.0 yards per carry this season while ranking top five among 56 qualifying RBs in yards after contact per attempt, Pro Football Focus Elusive Rating, and PFF rushing grade.

Here’s what HC Mike McDaniel said of Wright after Week 8: “I would expect a hard guy to tackle that continues to get his assignments right to get more action.”

That’s exactly what happened in Week 9. Wright’s six carries were his most in a game alongside a healthy De’Von Achane and Raheem Mostert this season.

Speaking of Mostert, he lost a fumble early in the third quarter of the loss to Buffalo – his second in three weeks. Mostert carried just once more the rest of the way. Wright carried five times.

Do I expect Wright to beat Mostert in carries vs. the Rams on Monday night? No. Is it possible? Definitely. And if he does, he’ll be much tougher to obtain next week.

Chuba Hubbard vs. Jonathon Brooks

Headshot of Chuba Hubbard

Kevin English

On Thursday, I read an interesting article from Panthers beat writer Joseph Person. Keep in mind that he’s covered the team since 2010.

What grabbed my attention was this blurb on RB Chuba Hubbard:

“...Even with the Panthers activating rookie running back Jonathon Brooks this week, Hubbard will remain the workhorse in the backfield. Hubbard has impressed with his tough, downfield running style, his work ethic and his strong leadership in the locker room. He’s the type of player [HC Dave] Canales wants to build around, so look for the Panthers to extend Hubbard before the end of the season to keep him from hitting free agency.

Two surprises in there:

  1. The expectation for Hubbard to remain a rest-of-season workhorse. The Panthers have slowplayed Brooks’ return from an ACL tear, but I thought they’d eventually want an extended look at the rookie.
  2. The idea of signing Hubbard to a second contract, which actually happened as I wrote this up. He’ll be just 26 with ~800 career touches entering next season. Still, it’s a surprising move given the investment in Brooks.

We’ll see about point No. 1. But if you were viewing Brooks as a weekly fantasy starter for the stretch run … it’s probably time to make other plans.

Thursday Night DFS Zigs

Headshot of Andrei Iosivas

Alex Korff

Tee Higgins is Doubtful for tonight, and I assume he won’t be playing, which means fantasy managers will be on Gesicki. In the three games without Higgins, Gesicki has averaged over a 20% target share. Last week, he turned those targets into 100 yards, two touchdowns, and the TE1 finish. Gesicki is the Zag on Thursday night, and at $6,600 I want to look at some Zigs to save my salary and pay up at the other flex spots.

Andrei Iosivas - $3,400

In the three games without Higgins, Iosivas is averaging an 88.8 route percent, 12.7% target share, and  8.4 x-PPG. He is on the field and is earning redzone targets. He is an interesting alternative to Gesicki to be a bit contrarian.

Jermaine Burton - $2,200

Burton is a knucklehead. He was trending in the right direction going into Week 9 and decided to throw away that momentum by skipping the Saturday walkthrough and showing up to the game last Sunday in his pajamas. It was a wild ride.

At $2,200, I don’t mind giving him a chance and seeing if he takes a step. You could do worse.

Get James Conner (while stashing Trey Benson)

Headshot of James Conner

Shane Hallam

It’s about time to start looking ahead to the fantasy playoffs and make moves to maximize your potential in those match-ups.

One of the best fantasy playoff stretches for a RB belongs to the Arizona Cardinals, getting:

  • Week 15: New England Patriots
  • Week 16: Carolina Panthers
  • Week 17: Los Angeles Rams

The Patriots and Panthers are the two worst defenses in rushing points per game given up to backfields while the Rams are 22nd in that category. All present positive match-ups for Conner to peak during the fantasy playoffs.

Conner is RB14 on the season, scoring in the double digits for six of his eight games. Even as the Cardinals offense struggles, Conner himself keeps rolling. If he is healthy, there is no doubt Conner has RB1 potential for the full playoff run.

Of course, his health is always a concern. We have him tagged as a Very High Injury Risk.

So, just in case, follow our Waiver Wire article this week and stash the talented rookie Benson behind Conner.

Having that Cardinals lead RB come playoff time will pay off.
