Malik Benson Headshot

Raiders beat writer Ryan McFadden writes that WR Malik Benson "has made a strong case for meaningful snaps" this season.

What They're Saying

Here’s more from McFadden (via ESPN):

“In a fairly thin wide receiver room, Benson has been a shining star, and that was the case on Tuesday. His and quarterback Fernando Mendoza's connection was on point. Mendoza repeatedly completed throws to Benson on crossing and comeback routes.

During the one-on-one period, Benson matched up with fellow rookie cornerback Jermod McCoy on a few reps, in which the former Oregon pass catcher showed off his footwork and separation ability to make catches.”

McFadden adds that Benson has “emerged as WR3, outplaying Jack Bech and Dont’e Thornton Jr.” Tre Tucker and Jalen Nailor project as the top two WRs.

Meanwhile, WR coach Zach Azzanni complimented Benson's progress as a route runner.

"He's gotten a lot better at it," Azzanni said. "He's got a long way to go, but I'm pleased with where he's at because I knew he had the skill set to do it."

2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Keep Monitoring the Rookie

Benson probably won't deliver useful fantasy value as the WR3 -- not for an offense that flows through Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty.

But the rookie's early success is certainly a positive for his development. Benson arrived in Round 6 after a five-year college career that included stops at Alabama, Florida State, and Oregon. His breakout season didn't come until last fall, when he posted 43-719-6 alongside one of the best QBs in the nation, Dante Moore.

At 6'0, 189, Benson's known for his electric speed. If he's now developing as a route runner, it'll give him a chance to emerge as a more well-rounded NFL asset.

Benson remains off the redraft radar, but he's at least a watch-list name in deeper formats in case injuries strike Vegas' pass-catching corps.
