Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
49ers HC Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Monday that RB Trey Sermon sustained a concussion in the win over the Eagles. It happened on Sermon's 1st carry of the game, which didn't come until the 4th quarter. We'll see when the rookie is cleared, but he's a ways away from fantasy relevance right now.
49ers RB JaMycal Hasty injured an ankle in the 2nd half of Sunday's game against the Eagles and is officially questionable to return. RB Trey Sermon, meanwhile, is being evaluated for a concussion after losing a fumble on his 1st carry of the season. RB Elijah Mitchell at least returned for San Francisco after hurting his shoulder.
49ers RB Trey Sermon is active for today’s game against the Eagles. The rookie, of course, was a healthy scratch behind Raheem Mostert, Elijah Mitchell and JaMycal Hasty for the opener. Mostert is done for the season, but Mitchell, Hasty and Trenton Cannon are active today. Your guess as to how much work Sermon will receive is as good as our’s. Mitchell is expected to "carry the load," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that 49ers RB Elijah Mitchell is expected to "carry the load" in today's game against the Eagles. Rapoport adds that both RBs Trey Sermon and JaMycal Hasty will play, but it sounds like Mitchell is in for another hefty workload. He's an upside fantasy play today.
49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said Monday that RB Trey Sermon will be active for Week 2. Sermon was a surprise healthy scratch for the opener after looking like a top 2 RB on the depth chart throughout the offseason. But with RB Raheem Mostert out for the season, San Francisco is down to Sermon, Elijah Mitchell and JaMycal Hasty on the active roster. (Plus Kerryon Johnson on the practice squad.) Of course, it remains to be seen how touches will be divvied among those guys. Sermon would be a risky Week 2 fantasy play -- but he should certainly remain on rosters.
49ers RB Raheem Mostert announced on social media that he'll undergo season-ending knee surgery after consulting with multiple doctors. So, if you weren't already planning to, you can safely drop Mostert from all redraft rosters. San Francisco is left with Elijah Mitchell, JaMycal Hasty and Trey Sermon at RB. All 3 figure to be active for Week 2. It's also worth noting that RB Jeff Wilson (knee) is eligible to come off the PUP list in Week 7. You can see where all of those guys sit in our updated Rest-of-Season Rankings.
Niners RB Raheem Mostert has chipped cartilage in the knee he injured Sunday. ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reports that he’ll land on IR and is expected to miss 8 weeks. Elijah Mitchell took control of the backfield after Mostert left in Detroit, with JaMycal Hasty involved as well. We’d bet on Trey Sermon being active at Philly in Week 2. We’ll see about the workload split. Obviously, we have to assume that Mitchell will lead the way again — barring reports to the contrary.
49ers RB Trey Sermon is inactive for today's game against the Lions. It's a major surprise -- and leaves Raheem Mostert as San Francisco's clear lead RB in a dream matchup. Mostert is a borderline must-start in fantasy. RBs JaMycal Hasty and Elijah Mitchell are behind Mostert today.
49ers RB Raheem Mostert got the start in Sunday's preseason finale and played all 10 snaps on the 1st possession. RB Trey Sermon then played all 14 snaps on the 2nd possession. Those 2 will open the season sharing backfield work. The exact split between them remains uncertain.
The 49ers are holding RB Trey Sermon out of Sunday night's preseason game against the Chargers. The rookie reportedly sustained a mild ankle injury during the practice week. According to Niners Nation, he returned to the field for the practice in which he came up "gimpy." That indicates it's not an issue we need to worry about. Raheem Mostert and Elijah Mitchell also won't play in the game, leaving more reps for Wayne Gallman and JaMycal Hasty.
The Athletic's believes 49ers RB Trey Sermon might play a role similar to the one Tevin Coleman played back in 2019. "The 49ers liked to begin games with Tevin Coleman at tailback, which both tenderized the defense and kept the 49ers’ home-run hitter, Raheem Mostert, fresh." That season, Coleman out-carried Mostert 137 to 112 in their 14 games together. Such a split would be a win for Sermon in his rookie season. The takeaway here, though, is that it'll be a committee attack in San Francisco's backfield this year.
49ers RB Trey Sermon has "made a strong first impression, particularly as a pass-catcher out of the backfield," according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. Sermon soaked up 1st-team reps in minicamp with RBs Jeff Wilson and Raheem Mostert sidelined with knee issues. The pass-catching comment is particularly noteworthy since Sermon arrives to the NFL with a modest 48 receptions across 4 college seasons. We'll be keeping a close eye on this 49ers backfield in training camp and preseason. Sermon has been leaving the board in the 6th round of recent FFPC best-ball drafts.
