        Strong Camp for DeVonta Smith

        DeVonta Smith Headshot

The Athletic's Brooks Kubena says for the Eagles, "No player has been as impressive in camp" as WR Devonta Smith. "Smith has caught several deep passes from Hurts through six practices, showcasing an explosivity the Eagles lacked during their late-season collapse in 2023," Kubena writes. He adds that the new offense under OC Kellen Moore might continue to feature more downfield shots. According to Pro Football Focus, Hurts ranked just 20th last year in percentage of pass attempts traveling 20+ yards downfield -- among 40 qualifying QBs.

        What They're Saying

HC Nick Sirianni on Smith: "He looks super quick in and out of breaks. He works so hard at how to get in and out of breaks because that’s where the game is won. If you’re playing press man to man, the game is won at the line of scrimmage where you shake off the defensive back and at the top of the route separating, and he’s really shown a good job there. He catches everything."

WR A.J. Brown: "Nobody has been able to cover DeVonta all camp,"

        2024 Fantasy Football Impact

Smith has finished the past two seasons ranked 15th and 21st among WRs in PPR points per game -- his two years sharing the field with Brown. So no one really needs to make a case for him as a productive NFL or fantasy player.

But he went from trailing Brown by just nine total targets -- and leading him by 7 receptions -- in 2022 to trailing his mate by 2.3 targets per game last season.

Don't be surprised if that gap closes this season.

        Other Winners & Losers

There's room for Brown, Smith, and TE Dallas Goedert to all produce worthwhile fantasy numbers. In the past, though, Smith and Goedert have impacted each others' target shares more than either has Brown.

More share for Smith could ding Goedert's value this year. But he already sits at the bottom of TE1 range in ADP, so the risk is minimal.

More downfield passing would be nice for Hurts, who benefits either way from working with two stud wideouts.

        Rankings Movement

We haven't moved Smith (or Brown) in reaction to the WR2's camp buzz. He has stood as the better relative value by our ADP Market Index, though, which compares our projections to market prices.
