49ers RB Christian McCaffrey was placed on IR with Achilles tendinitis and calf tightness. He will miss the next four games at least, and may miss more when the 49ers assess the injury in October. Jordan Mason will handle RB1 duties.
Adam Schefter of ESPN: "49ers officially are placing All-Pro RB Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve due to his calf tightness and Achilles tendinitis. McCaffrey now will miss the next four games, at least, before the team assesses whether he can return in mid-October."
McCaffrey missed Week 1 and was ruled Out for Week 2. The 49ers decided to put him on IR which will cause him to miss at least all the way through Week 5.
Jordan Mason becomes a borderline RB1 in the 49ers offense and their running scheme. He showed that can put up top 10 RB fantasy numbers in Week 1 against the Jets
It is also worth noting that rookie RB Isaac Guerendo will be serving as the back-up now since Elijah Mitchell is on season-ending Injured Reserve.
Achilles tendinitis generally needs rest to heal, so McCaffrey will get that rest over the next few weeks. If that isn't enough, McCaffrey could miss even more time.
