A Colts source tells ESPN's Stephen Holder that the team is "not quitting" on QB Anthony Richardson. "They want Richardson to take a step back, take a break from the pressures of the job and try to grow during this time," Holder adds.
The Colts have been trying to let Richardson play through his struggles. That hasn't worked very well, so now they'll let him learn from the bench.
Richardson will likely get back on the field again this season, but we'd expect to see QB Joe Flacco for at least a few weeks. After this weekend's game against the Vikings, the Colts get tough draws agains the Bills and Jets. Perhaps we see Richardson back for the Lions game in Week 12 or the Patriots game in Week 13. Indianapolis then gets a Week 14 bye, though, so it might make sense to keep Richardson on the bench until after that.
Richardson is droppable in standard-sized, 1-QB redraft leagues.
It's been an ugly start for Richardson, who has missed time with multiple injuries over the last two seasons and completed just 50.2% of his passes with seven TDs vs. eight INTs. Remember, though, that Richardson started for just one season in college and is still only 22.
Neither the Colts nor dynasty owners should be giving up on Richardson just yet. In fact, rebuilding dynasty teams should consider making a buy-low offer for him right now.
