What to Like About A.J. Brown's Latest Modest Outing

        A.J. Brown Headshot

Eagles WR A.J. Brown didn't do much to help your fantasy team in Sunday's loss to the Broncos. He managed just 5 receptions for 43 yards on eight targets. But his game presented some reasons for optimism and nearly delivered many more fantasy points.

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Let's start with those unrealized fantasy points. Brown and QB Jalen Hurts had a couple missed deep connections. The most noteworthy came on a fourth-quarter route that sent him downfield from the slot.

Brown looked back, didn't see the ball, slowed up, restarted, and wound up about 5 yards short from where the ball landed.

If Brown just keeps running that route, he's got a long TD and more than 100 yards for the game.

One key to that play, Philly shifted him inside, which got Brown away from the coverage of CB Pat Surtain II.

Brown spent most of Sunday working against one of the league's top corners. Yet the Eagles still threw eight targets his way. That marks four straight games with at least eight targets and three games among the past four with at least 5 receptions.

Further, Shane pointed out in his most recent film-review article that the Eagles have limited Brown's slant routes, even though it's been effective throughout his career.

Well, after Surtain broke up an important fourth-quarter slant to Brown, commentator Tony Romo said the corner was sitting on the route because Philly kept going to it in conversion situations.

        Things Should Get Better Soon

It's not shocking that Brown had a meh game against Surtain and the Broncos. But it's notable that Philly dropped Hurts back 22 times in the first half vs. nine total rushing attempts.

The Eagles are trying to get the passing game going. And the run game's not faring much better. So expect that effort to continue.

Philly gets a soft Giants D two of the next three weeks, with a visit to Minnesota in between.
