Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon announced Tuesday that he'll start QB Jacoby Brissett on Sunday at Seattle. But he stopped short of extending the decision beyond this week.
What They're Saying
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero: "Kyler Murray is still getting healthy, Gannon said. But 'I do like how we're operating as an offense' and so he's not waiting to say Brissett will remain the QB."
ESPN's Adam Schefter: "Jonathan Gannon named Jacoby Brissett as the starter for just Sunday at Seattle; it gives the team clarity and knowledge on a short week."
More from Schefter: "Sources: Kyler Murray and the Cardinals have consulted with multiple doctors on his foot injury and have been told the timetables for recovery have been anywhere from 4-8 weeks, with an increased chance of setback until it’s properly healed. Murray now has more time to heal."
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo: "Gannon didn't rule out Kyler Murray for Sunday. Did say he will 'keep working on his health bucket' while Jacoby Brissett starts against the Seahawks."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
OK. First off, if Murray's "working on his health bucket" ... then I might have an idea of why it's taking him so long to recover from his foot injury.
That aside, we're all asking the same skeptical question about this one: How much of this is Murray's foot injury and how much is Brissett playing better than Murray was before getting hurt?
The answer, of course: None of us really knows.
If Brissett has another good outing at Seattle in Week 10, then it'll be that much harder for Arizona to bench him the following week. If he doesn't, we'd probably be more likely to see Murray soon.
Ultimately, the Arizona offense has been undeniably better with Brissett at the helm. So we're hoping for that around here. But we'll all be watching to see what the Cardinals do (and what else is said about Murray's foot recovery ... and bucket o' health).
Fortunately, we already had Brissett projected for Week 10. See where he lands in our QB rankings.
Injury Impact: Estimated Return Timeline
If Murray's working under that 4-8 week timeline that Schefter reported, this Sunday would mark five weeks. So the return could seemingly come at any time, depending on the health of Murray's foot.
