Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
No Packers WR played more than 71% of the snaps in Week 1. Romeo Doubs led the group with 34 of 48 snaps (70.8%), about 5% below last year’s average. First-round rookie Mathew Golden was next at just 47.9%. Despite Jordan Love’s success, the inconsistent usage makes the Packers’ WRs tough to start.
Packers WR Jayden Reed (foot) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Lions. He got in limited practices on Thursday and Friday as he attempts to play through what’s been reported as a Jones fracture in his left foot. We’ll need to see Reed looking reasonably healthy in a game before recommending him as a fantasy starter. WRs Dontayvion Wicks (calf) and Savion Williams (hamstring) are also questionable for Week 1. Matthew Golden and Romeo Doubs figure to operate as Green Bay’s clear top two WRs in the opener.
Packers WR Jayden Reed (foot) did not practice on Wednesday. He's reportedly trying to play through a Jones fracture but is uncertain for this weekend's opener vs. the Lions. Even if Reed suits up for that one, he won't be a recommended fantasy start. His absence would leave Matthew Golden and Romeo Doubs as Green Bay's clear top two WRs. WRs Dontayvion Wicks (calf) and Savion Williams (hamstring) were both limited in Wednesday's practice. Malik Heath is the only other WR on the active roster.
The Athletic's Jeff Howe believes that rookie Matthew Golden could quickly emerge as the Packers' No. 1 WR. "It might not be all that shocking if he quickly becomes quarterback Jordan Love’s go-to wide receiver," Howe writes. "He was turning heads early in the offseason, and he maintained that momentum through the summer."
We've been tracking a left foot injury for Jayden Reed nearly all month, and passed along just this morning that the Packers WR looks iffy for Week 1. But the latest revelation makes everything beyond Week 1 look iffy as well. Jason Wilde -- a longtime Packers writer -- reports that Reed's dealing with a Jones fracture in his left foot.
Packers QB Jordan Love is undergoing surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, GM Brian Gutekunst announced. Love banged the non-throwing thumb on a helmet in Green Bay's preseason opener on Saturday. Gutekunst called it a "little procedure" and said Love "shouldn't miss any regular-season time." He added that the team is hoping to get Love back at practice next week.
Packers WR Jayden Reed did not play in Saturday night's preseason game and was spotted with a boot on his left foot. We don't have any other details on the injury. Reed played in Green Bay's Family Night game last weekend, so the injury occurred sometime between then and now.
Packers QB Jordan Love named WR Matthew Golden the team's most impressive newcomer. "He's a stud," Love added.
Packers WR Matthew Golden has "checked every box through his first two days in pads," Packers News' Ryan Wood writes. "Route running. Hands. Physicality. What kind of player Golden becomes will depend on consistency and how he handles unavoidable adversity, but the first-round tangibles are evident."
The Packers selected Texas WR Matthew Golden with the 23rd pick of Round 1 in the 2025 NFL Draft. Golden wins with speed, stop-start ability, and savvy route running. DBs struggled to get their hands on him in press coverage. Golden made early strides at Houston, tallying 77 catches, 1,003 yards, and 13 TDs over his first two seasons. Transferring to Texas in 2024, the 6’0, 195-pounder took his game to another level. He led the Longhorns in receiving yards (987) and TDs (9) while averaging 17.0 yards per catch. Golden drew a Chris Olave comp from NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, a skillset with plenty of fantasy potential. He also ranked 38th among Combine WRs in 2024 Target Share at 16.1%, and 29th among those WRs in PFF Receiving Grade with a 75.6. He is currently 21 years old with a Breakout Age of 20.1. He ranked fourth among WRs in our Draft Sharks predraft Rookie Model scoring a 7.73. Our Comp for him in our Rookie Guide is Jeremy Maclin.
Former Texas Longhorns WR Matthew Golden ran a 4.29 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, beating former teammate Isaiah Bond. At 5'11 and 191 pounds, Golden is nearly a lock to be a first round draft pick and may even be in contention to be the first WR selected.
