The Dolphins and QB Tua Tagovailoa have agreed to a four-year, $212.4 million contract extension, according to NFL Network. Tagovailoa had been in the final year of his rookie deal but is now signed with Miami through the 2028 season. The extension lands Tagovailoa third league-wide in average annual salary, behind only QBs Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence.
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
There's minimal 2024 impact from this deal. We never expected Tagovailoa to miss regular season time, even if an agreement hadn't been reached. Tua didn't do much in the first few days of training camp but will be a full-go now. Having this situation settled can't be bad news for his 2024 performance.
Dynasty Impact
The extension is excellent news for Tagovailoa's longer-term dynasty value. He'll remain with offensive mastermind Mike McDaniel and explosive WRs Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Both of those guys are signed through 2026.
Tagovailoa finished ninth among QBs in fantasy points per game in McDaniel's 2022 debut and 18th last year.
It's worth noting that Tua has been a volatile producer under McDaniel. He's scored as a top-5 QB in 24% of healthy games over the past two seasons but finished outside the top 15 in 48% of those games. That profile makes Tagovailoa more valuable in best-ball setups.
Other Winners & Losers
Tagovailoa's extension stabilizes Hill and Waddle's dynasty values.
