Defense Attorney and FootballGuys writer Drew Davenport believes there's a "better than even chance" that Chiefs WR Rashee Rice will not be suspended in 2025 for his role in a street-racing crash a little over a year ago. Davenport points out that Rice's case has not been indicted yet, so the legal process might not be wrapped up until after the coming season.
Davenport: "No evidence that a case has even been indicted yet. … Even if the case were to get indicted tomorrow it's a complicated case that will take time to unravel, particularly if the case proceeds to trial. Multiple high-level felonies could mean we are talking 2026 offseason before this case gets anywhere."
It's certainly worth noting that Davenport has no direct knowledge of Rice's case. But he's an experienced attorney and tends to be spot on when it comes to this stuff.
Rice still carries suspension risk until we get closer to the season, but that risk seems smaller now than it did before this new info.
We also heard from HC Andy Reid earlier this week that Rice is on track to be ready for training camp after last September's season-ending knee and hamstring injuries.
We had Rice projected to miss the first five games of the season prior to this note from Davenport. We're still factoring in some suspension risk but are now projecting Rice to miss just two games.
That moves him from 21st to 16th in the 2025 WR Rankings.
