Best Week 2 Moves From Our Experts: Don't Overreact... Yet

Best Week 2 Moves
Whether you're playing redraft or dynasty, knowing what moves to make is crucial to success.
That's why we're having each of our fantasy football experts give you one move to take advantage of this week.
Don’t Overreact to One Week
Week 1 turned up top-8 QB weeks from Daniel Jones and Aaron Rodgers.
Javonte Williams slid into the top-5 at RB.
WR featured several surprises, with Keon Coleman and Quentin Johnston cracking the top-3. Marquise Brown and Keenan Allen also finished as WR1s.
At TE, Juwan Johnson finished as the top fantasy scorer. Harold Fannin and Noah Fant snuck into the top-10.
Sure, there are outliers each week of the fantasy season. But it’s especially important to let a few games play out before assuming any of the surprise names above will stick as assets.
On the other hand, you can often capitalize on one down week to acquire players at a discount. We shared some of those names in our recent piece on fantasy football trade targets.
Sell Garrett Wilson
I barely even tried to have this move included in this week’s Trade Targets article because I knew there’d be pushback from the rest of the Draft Sharks staff.
But I’d be shopping Wilson this week, hoping for WR1 value in return.
Wilson is coming off a big 7-95-1 Week 1 receiving line in a 32-point explosion from the Jets offense. I’m not buying it.
Yes, QB Justin Fields looked good. And yes, Wilson dominated targets, drawing a 41% share.
Yet he still ranked just 29th among WRs in expected PPR points on the week. Because, as expected, the Jets went extremely run-heavy. They ranked:
- 32nd in pass rate
- 31st in neutral pass rate
- 32nd in pass rate over expected
The Jets figure to remain near the very bottom of the league in those categories going forward. And do we really expect Fields to remain as efficient as he was in Week 1? We have four seasons' worth of data that says he’s a subpar passer.
Unless Wilson continues to draw a target share north of 40% (spoiler: He won’t), he still looks like a lower-end WR2 to me. I bet you can get more than that for him in a trade right now.
Sell Jayden Reed
Reed’s Week 1 numbers look fine. He caught 3-of-5 targets for 45 yards and a TD. Anyone who inserted Reed into their lineups walked away happy.
However, Reed is dealing with a Jones fracture in his left foot. While he played through it, Reed looked limited in his ability to make cuts. This is the type of injury that is susceptible to reoccur, making Reed a risky bet.
The Packers also rotated their wideouts in Week 1 liberally. Reed only ran 12 routes and was in on 51% of Green Bay’s snaps. That ranked fourth at WR on his own team.
He’s likely to play a limited number of snaps weekly as the Packers try to keep him healthy. It’s good to see Reed is willing to play through a nagging injury, but the likelihood of it lingering or getting worse with continual use is worrisome.
Stay Patient with David Njoku
Drafting (and starting) David Njoku when Harold Fannin goes off in Week 1 is frustrating. But stay patient.
Njoku outsnapped Fannin 64 to 55, meaning his role was unaffected by Fannin. 11 of those were slot snaps (while Fannin had 15 slot snaps).
With the Browns using a base 12 personnel, both TEs could be valuable moving forward. But Njoku’s talent will shine through soon. He had five targets, and Joe Flacco showed enough competence to buy into the Browns’ weapons. More red zone opportunities should mean more Njoku as well.
Stay the course, don’t cut him, and TDs should come.
Go Get Elic Ayomanor
Rookie WR Elic Ayomanor only had 3.3 PPR points in Week 1, but he had 11.5 expected fantasy points.
Wth seven targets, he was a surprising #2 WR for the Titans. Being a good prospect with weird medicals makes Ayonamnor a stash.
His 28% target share for Week 1 is impressive as well. This week probably is bad for him, but stash him for the future.
