Best Week 3 Moves From Our Experts: Buy These Stud WRs

        Best Week 3 Moves

Whether you're playing redraft or dynasty, knowing what moves to make is crucial to success.

That's why we're having each of our fantasy football experts give you one move to take advantage of this week.

        Buy Brian Thomas Jr.

        Jody Smith

        Headshot of Brian Thomas Jr.

This comes with a caveat – wait until Monday. The Jaguars host the Texans this week, which means Thomas is going to see a lot of Derek Stingley in coverage. That could lead to another frustrating fantasy outing, and more panic for people who drafted Thomas early.

The timing between Thomas and QB Trevor Lawrence has been off. However, Thomas is still getting plenty of targets. He has a 26% target share and 46% air yards share through two games. But his yards per route run (0.90) and yards after catch numbers (5) have been nonexistent.

It feels like only a matter of time before Liam Cohen gets this figured out and starts featuring Thomas in the ‘Mike Evans’ role.

And while the Week 3 matchup is tough, Thomas did well against Stingley’s coverage last year, posting WR8 and WR16 weekly finishes. If you don’t want to wait until after this week’s game, now is a good time to try to buy low,

        Buy Chris Olave

        Jared Smola

        Headshot of Chris Olave

Olave has been the biggest underachiever among WRs in terms of expected fantasy points vs. actual points through two weeks. He ranks 33rd in PPR points but leads the position in expected PPR points. That presents a classic buying opportunity.

Olave’s role has been awesome. His 28.8% target share ranks ninth among WRs. And his 23 total targets rank third.

Kellen Moore is doing Kellen Moore things, with the Saints ranking first in pace and seventh in plays. Only three teams have thrown more passes so far.

And QB Spencer Rattler hasn’t been a disaster. He’s averaging just 5.3 yards per attempt but has completed 65% of his passes and ranks 10th in Pro Football Focus passing grade.

Olave profiles as at least a low-end WR2 going forward and can likely be acquired for much cheaper than that right now.

        Start Terry McLaurin

        Shane Hallam

        Headshot of Terry McLaurin

A joke among the Draft Sharks staff has been, “Another week of being below consensus on Terry McLaurin.”

His 13 TDs last year propped up a season where McLaurin saw his lowest target total (117) since 2019. But at least he has Jayden Daniels.

After an offseason injury and holdout, McLaurin started off the season slowly, finishing as PPR WR72 in Week 1, and WR47 in Week 2.

Now Jayden Daniels is likely to miss Week 3. So why start McLaurin?

        Marcus Mariota loves him.

Last year, Mariota targeted McLaurin on 33% of his routes in the game and a half Mariota played.

The Raiders have also struggled against the deep pass so far this season, which should also benefit McLaurin.

Start him with confidence and expect top-24 numbers this week.

        Shop Ladd McConkey

        Matt Schauf

        Headshot of Ladd McConkey

Why am I saying “shop” instead of “sell”? Because this isn’t a guy you need to just unload for whatever you can get. He’s not crashing out. But McConkey is proving that he was overrated at draft time.

The second-year WR is a good player, in a good offense, coming off a terrific rookie year. But he didn’t belong in Round 2 of drafts, which is where his ADP sat throughout summer.

The problem: Target volume. McConkey finished last year tied for just 29th among WRs in expected PPR points per game; 25th in target share. Through two weeks of this year, those sit at 34th and 24th.

The Chargers’ boost in passing volume will help everyone, but McConkey’s hurt by the return of Keenan Allen (the target leader so far) and apparent improvement by Quentin Johnston.

McConkey will probably be fine. But he’ll face a perilous climb to get close to the WR11 at which he was getting drafted. Shop him now to see if someone will pay that price. And if they won’t, try again after the next time he scores a TD.
