New-Look Patriots' Backfield Includes Same Old TreVeyon Henderson

        TreVeyon Henderson Headshot

There was hope that last week's season-ending knee injury to Antonio Gibson would free up more playing time and touches for TreVeyon Henderson. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Henderson played only 19 snaps, his second-lowest total of the season, in the Patriots' 25-19 win in New Orleans. QB Drake Maye led the way for New England, throwing for 261 yards and accounting for 3 TDs in the victory.

The Patriots only ran for 73 yards and it was Maye who led the team with 28 yards and a score on the ground.

Rhamondre Stevenson started but had no success against a Saints' run defense that was yielding the 11th-most adjusted fantasy points to opposing RBs. Stevenson averaged a paltry 1.4 yards per carry on his 13 totes and failed to haul in his only target.

Meanwhile, Henderson wasn't able to take advantage of Stevenson's struggles. Henderson rushed 9 times for 27 yards and caught 1-of-2 targets for 9 additional yards. Despite being the more effective option on Sunday, Henderson played less than one-third of New England's snaps:

        • Rhamondre Stevenson - 46 snaps (79.3%), 13 touches.

        • TreVeyon Henderson - 19 snaps (32.7%), 10 touches.

Despite his ineffectiveness, Stevenson's 79.3% snap share was his highest rate of the season.

Gibson averaged 10.4 snaps per game from Weeks 1-5, but his absence did not benefit Henderson in Week 6. Gibson's snaps went to Stevenson and FB Jack Westover, who played 10 snaps but did not record a touch or target.

New England piled up 333 total yards, but 260 of them came via the pass.

Between Stevenson's fumbles and ineffectiveness, there is still hope that OC Josh McDaniel will incorporate his rookie RB into the offense more. But until we see that happen, it's probably best for fantasy managers to keep Henderson stashed on their bench.
