The Chicago Bears scored 31 points on offense against the Pittsburgh Steelers with three rookies overtaking the veterans in front of them. RB Kyle Monangai went 12-48-1 on the ground outperforming D’Andre Swift who only went 8-15-0. TE Colston Loveland went 4-49-1 compared to Cole Kmet’s 1-3-0. Finally, WR Luther Burden III surpassed Olamide Zaccheaus again this week with Burden going 3-46-0 on 5 targets while Zaccheaus caught his lone target for 6 yards.

The changing of the guard happened in more than just the box score as well.
Monangai played 35 snaps compared to Swift’s 29, and even ran more routes than Swift with 18 to 15. Monangai did not receive a target in the game, but the routes are encouraging for Monangai to eventually get more receiving work.
It will be tough to trust Swift moving forward if this split continues. Monangai has been the preferred back at the goal line over the last few weeks already. He could become a flex play, especially in non-PPR leagues.
Loveland only played one snap more than Kmet (42 to 41), but did run 26 routes compared to Kmet’s 17. The Bears moved Loveland around the formation more, playing in the slot while Kmet sat in-line for most of his snaps.
Loveland has had a few spike weeks now and continues getting more work as time goes on. His talent advantage over Kmet is clear on film, and Loveland appears to ramping up into a full time role.
Burden finally overtook Zaccheaus last week in terms of snaps and that trend continued. Burden played 33 snaps, third on the team behind Rome Odunze and D.J. Moore. Zaccheaus played 23 snaps.
The routes between them was also apparent with Burden running 23 routes to Zaccheaus’ 9.
Burden should be stashed in every league with his potential in the slot of HC Ben Johnson’s offense (where we say Amon-Ra St. Brown excel). If his snaps continue trending upward, Burden could become a starter for the fantasy playoffs.
