DeVante Parker Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

The Athletic's Chad Graff lists WR Kendrick Bourne as a "faller" and WR Nelson Agholor as a "riser." Graff believes Bourne is now behind Jakobi Meyers, DeVante Parker and Agholor on the depth chart. Agholor "has been the Patriots’ best wide receiver in most practices and has shown an improved connection with Jones," Graff writes. We're not overly interested in any of these guys as draft targets, but we'll continue to monitor the pecking order.

Patriots WR Tyquan Thornton suffered a collarbone injury in Friday night's preseason game, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Rapoport doesn't say Thornton's collarbone is broken, but it sure sounds like that's the case. Thornton's season is "now put on hold, though based on his timetable, the injury to the speedster is not season ending." We'll look for a more concrete timeline, but Thornton isn't worth a roster spot in redraft leagues. His absence leaves Jakobi Meyers, DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne and Nelson Agholor as New England's clear top 4 WRs.

Update: NFL Network's Mike Giardi reports that Thornton is expected to miss "around 8 weeks."

WR DeVante Parker “looks like the Patriots #1 WR” through 2 days of training camp, per beat writer Mark Daniels. It’s obviously early, and players won’t be in pads until Monday. But the early word has been all positive on Parker, who’s performed “on a different level,” per Daniels. The 29-year-old is currently coming cheaply in FFPC best balls with an ADP of WR65.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss believes “there is potential for significant improvement in the deep passing game” for the Patriots this season. It appears Reiss bases this opinion primarily on how the deep-passing game has looked in early workouts. There’s certainly room for improvement. QB Mac Jones ranked just 26th among 31 qualifiers in deep-ball completion rate, according to ESPN Stats. He checked in above-average in on-target rate on downfield passes. In addition to more experience for the young QB and another off-season with his pass-catchers, New England added WR DeVante Parker via trade and speedy WR Tyquan Thornton in the 2nd round of the draft. Increasing his deep-ball production would be especially valuable for Jones, because he lacks rushing production and New England doesn’t figure to be a high-volume passing offense

Based on OTAs so far, Patriots insider Evan Lazar believes "the early-front runners to dominate reps at wide receiver in 11-personnel are [DeVante] Parker (X), [Kendrick] Bourne (Z), and [Jakobi] Meyers (slot)." That'd leave 2nd-round rookie Tyquan Thornton and veteran Nelson Agholor as the 4th and 5th WRs. Lazar suggests that Agholor could be a trade or cut candidate if he doesn't climb the depth chart. None of these Patriots WRs are super exciting in fantasy drafts.

The Dolphins traded WR DeVante Parker and a 2022 5th-round pick to the Patriots for a 2023 3rd-rounder. Parker was on the outs after Miami traded for WR Tyreek Hill and signed WR Cedrick Wilson. In New England, Parker will battle for outside snaps with WRs Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne. Parker has the most raw talent of that trio but has mostly disappointed since the Fins selected him 14th overall in the 2015 draft. Also hurting Parker's 2022 fantasy outlook is that the Patriots ranked 28th in pass rate and 27th in situation-neutral pass rate last year. They figure to throw more in QB Mac Jones' 2nd season, but this will still likely be a run-leaning offense.

Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle has been placed on the COVID list. He's a long shot to be cleared in time to play vs. the Jets on Sunday. His absence would leave WR DeVante Parker and TE Mike Gesicki as the clear top 2 options in Miami's passing game -- assuming they avoid the COVID list. QB Tua Tagovailoa's Week 15 fantasy stock takes a sizable hit without Waddle.

11:36am EST 12/5/21

Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (hamstring) is officially active for today’s game vs. the Giants. He just returned to practice this week. Parker has averaged 8.6 targets, 5 catches and 65.4 yards across 5 games this season, but he carries elevated risk in his first action since Week 8.

The Dolphins are activating WR DeVante Parker from IR to face the Giants on Sunday. Parker has been out since Week 8 with a hamstring injury but proceeded well through the practice week. He's a lower-level fantasy option with upside, though the Giants have played tough in pass defense over the past month.

Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (hamstring) was designated to return from IR and practiced on Wednesday. He's been out since going down in Week 8. Parker is eligible to play vs. the Giants on Sunday, but it's still unclear if he'll be ready. We'll keep an eye on him over the next few days.

3:48pm EDT 11/5/21

The Dolphins placed WR DeVante Parker on IR after he suffered a setback with his hamstring injury in practice this week, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. So he'll miss at least the next 3 games vs. the Texans, Ravens and Jets. We'll see if Parker is ready come Week 12, but he's certainly not a must-stash on fantasy rosters. WR Jaylen Waddle and TE Mike Gesicki both get target boosts with Parker out.

Dolphins WR DeVante Parker had a setback in practice this week and will be listed as doubtful for Sunday's game vs. the Texans, HC Brian Flores said. It's unclear if Parker's setback was to his shoulder or hamstring. He's seen nice volume when on the field this season but hasn't been able to stay healthy. Parker's absence on Sunday boosts the volume projections for WR Jaylen Waddle and TE Mike Gesicki.

11:35am EDT 10/31/21

Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (hamstring, shoulder) is active for today’s game vs. the Bills. It’ll be his 1st action since Week 8. Parker would be tough to trust in fantasy lineups, but he figures to siphon some targets from WR Jaylen Waddle and TE Mike Gesicki.

The Dolphins expect WR DeVante Parker to return to the lineup today against the Bills, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Parker has been out since Oct. 3, dealing with shoulder and hamstring injuries. His return could challenge the target shares of WR Jaylen Waddle and/or TE Mike Gesicki. The Buffalo matchup will be tough for the entire Miami offense, though the heavily favored Bills figure to drive up the Dolphins' passing volume.

Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (hamstring, shoulder) was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Bills. He was in the same boat last week and ended up inactive. We’ll get Parker’s game status around 11:30 ET on Sunday, but he shouldn’t be in your Week 8 fantasy plans.

Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (shoulder, hamstring) remained limited in Wednesday's practice. He was limited all last week before missing the Falcons game, so his status for this Sunday's game vs. the Bills is still uncertain.

Dolphins WRs DeVante Parker (hamstring, shoulder) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Falcons. Preston Williams (groin) is active and figures to operate as Miami’s #2 WR behind Jaylen Waddle.

Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (shoulder, hamstring) has "an uphill battle" to play against the Falcons today, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Parker was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable. Parker should be on fantasy benches for now. We'll get Miami's inactives around 11:30 am ET.
